National Geographic filmmaker and photographer Pete McBride has been to all seven continents and countless countries, documenting wildlife, rivers, and wild landscapes around the world — along with the challenges they face. When the world shut down for the covid pandemic in 2020, McBride found himself reflecting on his 20-year career — not through his typical camera lens, but through the focus of the natural soundscapes and silence he had experienced in locations like among the creaking ice of Mount Everest and below the surface with orcas in Norway.

The result was his gathering of two decades of beautiful photos and stories from some of the quietest places in the world into an award-winning book, Seeing Silence, for which I edited the trailer below.
